OHCA Board Tables Vote on Managed Care Rules

On Thursday, the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) Board voted to table a set of emergency rules related to complying with SB 131, a bill passed by the Legislature earlier this year to enact guardrails for managed care before it was overturned by the Oklahoma Supreme Court. The OHCA Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) voted against the rules last month. OHCA CEO Kevin Corbett and General Counsel Kara Smith argued the board had an obligation to act on the rules to comply with SB 131. "Let me make it clear," Corbett told the group, "Doing this is not any signaling of anything in regard to what we're going to do with regards to third-party managed care. All I'm trying to do is to make sure this agency and this board is in compliance with the law that has been passed by the State Legislature as well as honoring and respecting the Supreme Court ruling. It is simply that. It is nothing more."

Tulsa FQHC Pediatrician Appointed to TSET Board

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister recently appointed Dr. Runako Whittaker, a pediatrician at Morton Comprehensive Health Services, to the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust's (TSET) Board of Directors.

"As a veteran pediatrician active in improving the health of children in our state, Dr. Whittaker will bring an important perspective to the TSET Board of Directors," Hofmeister said in a statement Wednesday. "Her influence and expertise will have a meaningful impact on the wellbeing of Oklahomans, especially our youngest citizens. It's my honor to appoint Dr. Whittaker to this important role." Dr. Whittaker will represent Oklahoma's first congressional district on the board.
